The story
Uncle Harry’s began with a health problem. At 44, Harry developed severe and painful gum infections, and the standard dental procedures he trusted did not reverse them. That sent him looking for the cause rather than the treatment.
A mentor pointed him toward Ayurvedic remedies, including a tooth powder combining essential oils with calcium carbonate, mustard seed powder and other herbs. He made a test batch, and by his own account the result was remarkable enough that he decided to build a business around it.
The beginnings were domestic in the literal sense: the basement and garage of the family home held every process — handcrafting, filling, manufacturing, labeling and shipping. The company now runs a factory and a storefront in Redmond, Washington, and has published a virtual tour of the sustainable construction behind that building.
Harry retired from daily operations in 2021 and now works a nine-acre organic farm and cow sanctuary. The business is run by his grown children and has been 100% women-owned since his retirement.
Why they matter
