Simple formulas
Native deodorant is built on a short list of recognisable inputs — coconut oil, shea butter, tapioca starch and baking soda or magnesium — rather than a long chemical deck. The same approach carries into body wash, hair care and hand soap.
The Never List
Aluminum, parabens, sulfates, silicones, phthalates, dyes, petrolatum and chemical UV filters are excluded across the range. Every formula is vegan and none are tested on animals.

The story
Native began in 2015 with an ordinary moment of irritation. Founder Moiz Ali, a Harvard Law graduate who had already built and sold the spirits marketplace Caskers, looked at the ingredient panel on a drugstore deodorant and could not pronounce most of it. He bought a domain and launched a direct-to-consumer, aluminum-free alternative within days.
The bet was that a large number of people wanted the same thing and had simply never been offered it. Native grew almost entirely through word of mouth and digital advertising, without a retail footprint, and reportedly approached roughly $100 million in revenue inside two years — an unusually fast climb for a category dominated by a handful of legacy manufacturers.
In November 2017, Procter & Gamble acquired Native for approximately $100 million in cash. Unlike many acquisitions of this kind, the brand was not folded into an existing line; it continues to operate under its own name, with its own formulas and its own voice, now led by chief executive Christopher Talbott.
The range has since widened well beyond the original deodorant stick to include body wash, shampoo and conditioner, hand soap, mineral sunscreen and skincare — all held to the same published exclusion list, and all made in domestic facilities.
Why they matter
Native is one of the very few clean-beauty brands to scale from a standing start to a nine-figure acquisition without moving production offshore to protect margin. That is the decision most fast-growing consumer brands make at exactly the moment Native did not.
Its ownership by a multinational makes the point sharper rather than weaker. A brand absorbed into one of the largest consumer goods companies in the world still states, on its own site, that every manufacturing facility it uses sits in the United States.
Native also helped drag the aluminum-free category from health-food-store shelves into Target and Walmart at national scale. That expansion created durable demand for domestically produced personal care rather than a niche that quietly disappeared.
