Where Merrick products are made
The sentence “proudly founded in Hereford, Texas, and crafted in USA facilities” appears in the product copy itself, repeated across 29 of 35 pages sampled from nine different Merrick ranges — dry, wet, treats, toppers, Lil’ Plates, Backcountry, Grain Free, Limited Ingredient Diet and Purrfect Bistro. Origin language attached to individual products is harder to write loosely than one paragraph on an About page.
Merrick states where its food is made. It does not state where the meat, produce and supplements come from, and pet-food supply chains routinely cross borders. That distinction is the reason this profile does not upgrade the wording to an unqualified Made in USA.
Six of the thirty-five pages sampled — all treats and toppers — carry no origin line at all. Merrick does not claim them, so this page does not claim them either.
The Federal Trade Commission reserves an unqualified Made in USA claim for goods that are all or virtually all of domestic origin, ingredients included. Merrick publishes where its food is crafted but never where its ingredients originate, and six of the product pages sampled carry no origin line at all. This page therefore carries the American Manufacturing label, and the scope fact above records exactly what the company claims and what it leaves unsaid.
The story
Merrick started in 1988 in Hereford, Texas, a Panhandle cattle town, and the company still leads with that fact on every product page it publishes. It began small and narrow — beef treats made from what was locally at hand — and grew into full dry and wet recipes for dogs and cats.
Merrick is now a Nestlé Purina PetCare company, and the company discloses that in the footer of its own website rather than leaving it to be discovered. Corporate ownership changed; the Hereford sentence did not come off the products.
What is unusual is how the claim is carried. Many pet brands write one paragraph about American manufacturing on an About page and leave it there. Merrick repeats the same wording, product by product, across ranges that have little else in common.
Why they matter
Pet food is one of the categories where origin claims are most often stretched, because “made in” and “sourced from” are easy to blur and most buyers will not check. Merrick does not blur them — it says where the food is crafted and simply stops there.
That restraint is worth something. A company that claims only the part it can stand behind is easier to trust on the part it does claim, and it makes a specific, checkable promise rather than a warm one.
It also leaves a real question open, and this profile leaves it open too: Merrick has not published where its ingredients come from. Readers who care about domestic sourcing rather than domestic assembly do not yet have an answer from the company.

Merrick questions
Is Merrick made in the USA?
Merrick states on most of its product pages that its food is “proudly founded in Hereford, Texas, and crafted in USA facilities.” That is a statement about where the food is made. The company does not state where its ingredients are sourced, so the honest answer is that Merrick food is made in American facilities rather than that it is fully American in origin.
Where is Merrick food actually manufactured?
Merrick names the United States but does not name the individual plants on its website. The company’s founding home is Hereford, Texas, and that city is named on the products; the current production sites are not individually identified.
Who owns Merrick?
Merrick Pet Care, Inc. is a Nestlé Purina PetCare company, part of Société des Produits Nestlé S.A. Merrick discloses this in the footer of its own website.
Do all Merrick products carry the USA facilities line?
No. Of thirty-five product pages sampled across nine ranges, twenty-nine carried the line and six did not — all six of them treats or toppers. Where Merrick makes no claim, this profile makes none either.
