Infratech states that it manufactures every part of its heaters domestically at its Gardena, California facility, from initial design through final quality control. The story
Infratech’s roots run back to the early 1950s, when Bill Petro moved west from Michigan to Los Angeles and opened a metal fabricating job shop. Out of that shop came the Speedray — a portable infrared heater used to cure automotive paint. The company dates its founding to 1955, and infrared has been its entire business ever since.
In 1983 Bill Petro Jr. took over and renamed the company Infratech, narrowing the focus to infrared products exclusively. Four decades later it still designs, engineers and manufactures under one roof in Gardena, California — heaters, mounting systems, and the UL 508 listed control packages that run them.
In May 2026 Platinum Equity acquired a majority stake. CEO John Mazzotta stayed on and retained equity, and the company has publicly committed to keeping its manufacturing base in the United States.

Why they matter
Outdoor and commercial heating is a category dominated by imports. Infratech is one of the few names in it that manufactures domestically at scale, and it competes on price with imported brands rather than charging a premium for the flag.
That matters beyond the heater itself. Keeping fabrication, wiring, control-panel assembly and quality control inside one American plant supports skilled manufacturing jobs, keeps lead times short when global freight seizes up, and makes long-term parts support possible. Infratech’s claim that replacement parts are never discontinued is one only a company that still owns its tooling and its factory can credibly make.
For restaurants, hotels and homeowners extending an outdoor season, it is also a rare case where the American-made option is the mainstream specification rather than the boutique one.
