Where ella+mila products are made

🇺🇸

Made in the USA

Every polish, nail-care, lip, eye and body SKU carries a Made in the USA mark on the product page and on the bottle.

🧪

17-free formulation

Formulas exclude 17 named ingredients — among them formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, camphor, TPHP, acetone, parabens and all animal-derived ingredients.

🐰

Vegan and cruelty-free

Certified cruelty-free by PETA and by Leaping Bunny, the two credentials that actually require third-party verification.

A note on scope: ella+mila applies its Made in the USA claim to the formulated products — nail polish, nail care, removers, lip, eye and body. The company does not publish the address of the facility that produces them, and its accessory items (cosmetic bags, nail tools, nail stickers) carry no country-of-origin claim. We feature the US-made lines.

The story

ella+mila started with a father-and-mother problem that a lot of parents will recognize. Narineh Bedrossian went to paint her twin daughters’ nails and could not find a polish she actually trusted to put on them — the shelf was full of formulas built on chemicals she could not pronounce. So she built her own, and named it for the twins: Ella and Mila.

The brand launched in 2014 with the Mommy&Me set as its debut product — matching polish for a mother and her child, which is a hard thing to sell unless the formula is genuinely clean. It started at 5-free and kept pushing, adding exclusions year after year until it reached the 17-free standard it now calls itself the OG of. Along the way it picked up both PETA and Leaping Bunny certification and moved into lip, eye and body products.

Today ella+mila is stocked in Target, Ulta, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and Amazon, plus independent salons and boutiques through its own wholesale program — while remaining privately held and founder-led out of Los Angeles.

“I started polishing their nails and wanted to be sure I trusted what was going on their nails.” — Narineh Bedrossian, founder

Why they matter

Nail polish is one of the categories where American manufacturing quietly held on. It is a chemistry business, it is regulated, and the brands that kept production domestic did it because reformulating on the fly is easier when the lab is a drive away rather than an ocean away. ella+mila is one of the newer companies to build on that base rather than offshore from day one.

It also matters that the claims here are checkable. Plenty of beauty brands say “clean” and leave it at that. ella+mila publishes the specific list of 17 excluded ingredients and carries cruelty-free certification from two independent organizations — which is the difference between a marketing word and a standard someone else audits.

Frequently asked questions

Is ella+mila nail polish made in the USA?

Yes. ella+mila labels its nail polish, nail care, remover, lip, eye and body products as made in the USA, and the claim appears on every product page and on the bottle. The company does not publicly name the facility where the formulas are produced.

What does “17-free” actually mean?

It means the formulas exclude 17 specific ingredients, including formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin, toluene, phthalates (including DBP), camphor, triphenyl phosphate, acetone, parabens, xylene, styrene, gluten and all animal-derived ingredients. ella+mila publishes the full list with its reasoning for each one.

Is it vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes, and it is certified — by PETA and by Leaping Bunny. All formulas are vegan. The only caveat worth knowing is that certification covers the formulas, not the accessory items.

Who owns ella+mila?

It is privately held and founder-led. Narineh Bedrossian founded the company and serves as CEO; there has been no acquisition and no outside funding rounds on record.
