Where Eagle Tool US products are made
The business opened in 1976 as The Repair and Machine Shop, doing custom problem-solving work that ranged from deflashing plastic balloon forms to grooving stainless battery tops for Stealth Bombers. The tool line grew out of that capability rather than replacing it.
The company’s own explanation for manufacturing domestically is not sentiment: it says in-house manufacturing keeps cost low and quality high. When the shop already exists, making the part yourself is the cheaper option.
Launched in 2009, the Switch Bit puts interchangeable wood, steel and masonry heads on one flexible spring-steel shank, with fish accommodation holes and three-flat non-slip chuck grips. It is the kind of design that only gets refined if you own the machines.

The story
In 1976 a machine shop opened in Crystal Lake, Illinois under the name The Repair and Machine Shop. The work was whatever came through the door — deflashing plastic balloon forms one week, grooving stainless battery tops for Stealth Bombers another.
By the early 1990s the shop had found a product of its own: flexible installer bits, the long whippy drills an electrician or low-voltage installer uses to snake a hole through a stud bay without opening the wall.
In 2009 that product line got a name and a system. Eagle Tool US launched with the Switch Bit — one flexible spring-steel shank with interchangeable heads for wood, steel and masonry — and a range of sheet metal installation tools. A Quick Switch hex adapter followed in 2013.
The tools now sell through Home Depot, Amazon, MSC and electrical specialty distributors, and the company is a STAFDA member. The manufacturing stayed in Crystal Lake.
Why they matter
Installer bits are consumable. A working electrician goes through them, replaces them, and cares a great deal whether the shank snaps in a stud bay. That makes them a category where quality control has an immediate, physical constituency.
It is also a category almost entirely surrendered to imports. A small Illinois shop still making flexible bits, and printing the origin on the packaging, is genuinely unusual.
