Where Buck knives are made

Manufacturing

Post Falls, Idaho, USA. Buck makes roughly 87% of its knives at its main factory in Post Falls, where more than 300 people forge, grind, and finish the blades. The legendary 110 Folding Hunter and the core Buck lineup are made in the USA.

Heat treatment

Buck’s edge-holding heat treatment traces straight back to Hoyt Buck’s original 1902 method for tempering steel so a blade keeps its edge — the foundation of the company’s reputation for decades.

Warranty

Every Buck knife is covered by the company’s Forever Warranty against defects in material and workmanship — a promise rooted in American-made quality.

The honest note: Buck makes about 87% of its knives in Post Falls, Idaho. A small portion of the catalog is imported — the Buck products in our store are the USA-made models.

The story

Hoyt Buck forged his first knife in 1902 as a young blacksmith’s apprentice, perfecting a way to heat-treat steel so a blade held its edge. The company went commercial in 1947 as “H.H. Buck & Son” in San Diego, and Buck went on to popularize the folding hunting knife so completely that “a buck knife” became the generic name for the whole category. In 2005 the still-family-owned company moved to Post Falls, Idaho, where it is now run by the fifth generation.

Why it matters

When a single product line defines an entire category, that is American craftsmanship setting the standard. Buying a Buck keeps a five-generation family company — and more than 300 Idaho jobs — sharpening that edge, instead of sending those dollars to imported blades built to be replaced.
