The story
GILSON Snow began as a middle school science project, when teacher Nicholas Gilson and his colleague Austin Royer brought Nick’s childhood prototypes into the classroom.
In 2013, with the support of their students, they launched GILSON out of a Nashville classroom. Today the company makes its snowboards and skis at its factory in the Appalachian Foothills of Pennsylvania.
Why they matter
Snowboards and skis are overwhelmingly imported. GILSON states plainly that every board and ski it sells is handcrafted in the USA.
Buying from a maker that builds in Pennsylvania keeps skilled craft work, and the local wood supply behind it, in the United States.
