What this emblem covers. PowerStep says most — not all — of its insoles are produced in Wadsworth, Ohio, and qualifies its product claim with globally sourced materials. The emblem covers the insoles in its Made in the USA collection; we found no origin claim for its sandals, socks or accessories.
The story
PowerStep was founded by podiatrist Dr. Les Appel, who saw a pattern in the custom orthotics he prescribed and set out to make an affordable insole with a custom feel that did not need a prescription.
The brand grew to more than 65 products, and describes its insoles as the number one podiatrist-recommended brand of orthotic insoles.
PowerStep is part of Foundation Wellness, which says it has more than 80 years of manufacturing and development experience in foot care, and it keeps most of its insole production at its own facility in Wadsworth, Ohio.
Why they matter
PowerStep keeps most of its insole production in northeast Ohio and says so plainly.
It is also candid about the limits of that claim, qualifying it with globally sourced materials and the word “most” — the kind of precise labeling that lets a buyer check what they are getting.
