Company details
Where K’NEX products are made
“A landfill-free, zero-waste green manufacturing facility in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.” Naming the town is the useful part; naming an operating characteristic that could be checked against it is more than the category usually offers. Hatfield has been the K’NEX moulding home for a long time.
“All K’NEX bricks, rods, and connectors proudly made in the USA” is a sentence about three specific parts. A building set also contains motors, battery boxes, instructions and a box, and none of those are covered. This profile keeps the claim at the width the company wrote it.
Basic Fun! Inc. of Boca Raton, Florida owns K’NEX and positions itself as a toy designer and marketer rather than a manufacturer. The Hatfield claim is the exception within that portfolio rather than the rule, which is worth knowing before reading it as a statement about the company as a whole.
The Federal Trade Commission reserves an unqualified Made in USA claim for goods that are all or virtually all of domestic origin, assessed on the finished product. The K’NEX claim covers rods, connectors and bricks and is silent on motors, electronics, packaging and set assembly, and only two of sixteen listings carry it at all. This page therefore carries the American Manufacturing label, and the scope fact above states precisely which components the claim reaches.
The story
K’NEX is the rod-and-connector construction system — the one where the parts click at fixed angles and the structures end up looking like bridges and Ferris wheels rather than walls. The KID K’NEX line is the chunky preschool version of the same idea.
The moulding happens in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, and the company describes that plant as landfill-free and zero-waste. It is the single most concrete thing published about how K’NEX products are made.
The brand now sits inside Basic Fun! Inc. of Boca Raton, Florida, alongside a portfolio of other toy names. knex.com redirects to basicfun.com, and there is no longer a standalone K’NEX site — which is why the link on this page points where it does.
Why they matter
Construction toys are almost entirely imported, and a domestic moulding operation in a category like this is genuinely rare. Rods and connectors are high-volume, low-margin injection moulding, which is exactly the kind of work that normally leaves the country first.
K’NEX has kept it in Pennsylvania and says where. That is worth recording even though the claim is narrow, because the narrowness is honest: the company could easily have written “K’NEX is made in the USA” and left the motors out of the conversation.
The weakness is coverage. Two of sixteen listings carry the origin line, so a buyer looking at most K’NEX sets on the owner’s own site will see nothing about where any of it is made. The Hatfield fact deserves to appear on more than two pages.

K’NEX questions
Is K’NEX made in the USA?
The rods, connectors and bricks are. Basic Fun! states that “all K’NEX bricks, rods, and connectors” are made in the USA, at a facility in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. Motors, electronics, packaging and final set assembly carry no origin claim, so a complete K’NEX set is not claimed as wholly American.
Where is the K’NEX factory?
Hatfield, Pennsylvania. The company describes it as a landfill-free, zero-waste manufacturing facility, and names it directly in its product copy.
Who owns K’NEX now?
Basic Fun, Inc. of Boca Raton, Florida. The old knex.com address redirects to basicfun.com, and the brand has no separate website of its own.
Does the USA claim cover KID K’NEX too?
Yes, on the same terms. The KID K’NEX listing specifically says its rods and connectors are made in America at the Hatfield plant — again, the moulded components rather than the complete packaged set.
