Where Thorlo products are made
134 of Thorlo’s 145 published products carry an origin line, spread across eight unrelated families — tennis, ski, hiking, work, diabetic, western, golf and military. Brand-level origin paragraphs are cheap to write; origin marked on nearly every SKU is a much harder thing to fake.
The wording is “Made in USA of domestic and imported yarns.” A company that wanted to overclaim would simply have written “Made in USA.” Thorlo tells buyers the raw fibre is partly imported before anyone has to ask, and that is why this page quotes the sentence in full every time it appears.
Statesville, North Carolina is widely reported as Thorlo’s manufacturing home, but Thorlo does not publish that city on its own website — the only US address there is the New York office of its operator. The origin claim is first-party; the specific town is not, and this profile keeps the two apart.
The Federal Trade Commission reserves an unqualified Made in USA claim for goods that are all or virtually all of domestic origin, and it allows a qualified claim where some inputs are imported. Thorlo has written exactly such a qualified claim for itself — “Made in USA of domestic and imported yarns” — and applies it to 134 of 145 products with no Imported goods alongside them. This page carries the Made in USA label on the strength of that per-product disclosure, and reproduces the company’s yarn qualifier wherever the claim appears.
The story
Thorlo built its business on a single idea that sounds small and is not: that a sock is a piece of equipment, and that padding placed where a particular activity causes friction will prevent the blister that activity causes. Hence the eight families — the tennis sock, the ski sock, the hiking sock and the work sock are genuinely different products rather than different colours.
The therapeutic and diabetic lines come from the same logic applied to feet that cannot afford a blister at all. So does the military range, which is why the name turns up in places where the marketing does not reach.
The Thorlo brand is now operated worldwide under licence by Trimfit Global Inc, a division of the Montreal-based Lamour Group, and has been since June 2020. The origin marking on the products did not change with the licence.
Why they matter
Socks are one of the most thoroughly offshored things an American can buy, and most hosiery brands say nothing about origin at all because saying nothing is easier than saying Imported. Thorlo says something on nearly every product it sells.
The wording it chose is the interesting part. “Of domestic and imported yarns” is a sentence that costs a marketing department something — it introduces a qualification that no buyer demanded. Thorlo ships it anyway, which is a reasonable proxy for whether the rest of what a company says can be relied on.
There is one thing Thorlo could fix easily and has not: it does not publish the town its socks are knitted in. The claim is verifiable; the place is not, and a manufacturer with that kind of origin record has nothing to lose by naming the building.

Thorlo questions
Are Thorlo socks made in the USA?
Yes, with the company’s own qualifier. Thorlo marks 134 of its 145 products “Made in USA of domestic and imported yarns.” The socks are knitted in the United States; some of the yarn used is imported, and Thorlo says so itself.
Why does Thorlo say “of domestic and imported yarns”?
Because it is accurate. US sock manufacturers frequently buy fibre on a global market even when every stage of knitting, finishing and packing happens domestically. Thorlo discloses that rather than rounding the claim up to a bare Made in USA.
Where are Thorlo socks manufactured?
In the United States. Statesville, North Carolina is widely reported as the manufacturing location, but Thorlo does not publish that city on its own website — the only US address there is the New York office of its operating company, so this profile reports the origin claim as first-party and the town as press-sourced.
Who owns Thorlo?
The Thorlo brand is operated worldwide under licence by Trimfit Global Inc, a division of the Lamour Group of Montreal, under an agreement dating from June 2020.
