Where Aero Tech Designs apparel is made

🏭

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Design, patterning and sewing happen close to home. The company says keeping production nearby lets it control quality and shorten lead times.

📏

XS to 5XL

Patterns are built across an unusually wide size range rather than scaling a single fit up and down — a real constraint on where you can manufacture.

🌎

Mixed catalog

The majority of apparel is US-made; some accessories and select items are imported, so the product page is the place to check.

Aero Tech Designs states that it manufactures the majority of its apparel in the U.S.A. and sources premium materials wherever possible. Because part of the catalog is imported, we describe the company as American manufacturing rather than fully Made in USA, and recommend checking the individual product listing.

The story

Aero Tech Designs was founded in 2004 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on an idea simple enough to fit on a jersey: comfort unlocks better rides. Its stated mission is to design and deliver high-quality cyclewear that helps all riders ride longer and feel stronger — with the emphasis on all.

Founder Cathy Schnaubelt Rogers fell in love with cycling at twelve and never stopped. She has raced, toured across the United States and Europe, and completed a coast-to-coast electric-bike ride; her focus on comfort-driven apparel still shapes the company’s design decisions.

The company tests with the riders it actually sells to — commuters, gravel grinders, roadies and touring cyclists — and builds its patterns from XS through 5XL rather than treating larger sizes as an afterthought. That size range is one of the practical reasons to keep the sewing close: patterns across ten sizes need iteration, and iteration needs a factory you can walk into.

Aero Tech operates from 1132 4th Avenue in Coraopolis, just west of Pittsburgh, and supports the regional cycling community through Bike Pittsburgh, the Montour Trail, the Great Allegheny Passage, PeopleForBikes, IMBA and Adventure Cycling.

Why they matter

Apparel is the category America gave away most completely. Cut-and-sew work left for lower-wage countries decades ago, and the domestic industry that remains is small, specialized and largely invisible to shoppers.

A company still sewing technical cycling kit in Pennsylvania is therefore doing something structurally hard, not just sentimental — it means maintaining pattern-making, cutting and sewing capacity, and the skilled people who do that work, in a region where those jobs mostly disappeared.

The extended size range matters for the same reason. Domestic production lets a small company carry patterns that a high-volume overseas contract would never justify, which is how a rider at 5XL ends up with real cycling apparel instead of a scaled-up guess.
