The story
Wright Tool started in 1927 when C. Nelson Wright, a former tool salesman, set up shop in Barberton, Ohio — and famously sold his first tools out of the back of his car. From those modest beginnings, Wright built a name on a single stubborn principle still printed in the factory today: don’t put your name on something that isn’t the best. The company switched to hot forging in 1940 and developed its own Wright Alloy steel.
Nearly a hundred years on, Wright is still a management-owned, privately held company rooted in Barberton. Its toolmakers melt, hot-forge, machine and heat-treat hand tools locally, keeping tight control over quality from the steel up. Wright is candid about sourcing: over 99% of its branded tools are made in the USA, and on the rare exceptions the country of origin is disclosed right on the product.
He sold his first tools out of the back of his car — Wright still forges them in Barberton, Ohio.
