The story
Akro-Mils started in Akron in 1946, when brothers Louis and Isidore Myers began making steel cabinets with plastic drawers — the name combines ‘Akron’ with the family. Through the 1950s and 60s it moved deeper into molded plastics, building its first dedicated plant in 1964 and introducing the AkroBin in 1972, the hanging-and-stacking bin that became an industry standard.
More than seventy-five years on, Akro-Mils remains rooted in Ohio as part of Akron-based Myers Industries. Its plants in Wadsworth and the greater Akron area turn out the bins, totes, racks, shelving and carts that organize warehouses, hospitals, factories and garages across the country.
The name itself is Ohio shorthand — ‘Akro’ for Akron, the rest for the Myers family.
